Cet article expose la force du langage en contexte artistique et pédagogique. Les composantes de la compétence linguistique sont d’abord exposées à la lumière des travaux de Charles Taylor et de Paul Ricoeur, pour ensuite servir d’assise à mon étude sur le langage des metteur·euses en scène en contexte de création théâtrale, étude qui vient également éclairer les enjeux relatifs à la compétence linguistique des enseignant·es en classe de théâtre. Mes expérimentations sont mises à partie; elles démontrent comment le littéraire constitue un outil didactique précieux pour le développement de l’imaginaire, les jeux autour du langage créant des contrastes, des décalages et des effets de surprise qui éveillent la créativité.
