Abstract
All communities larger than primordial villages of face to face contact … are imagined. Communities are to be distinguished not by their falsity/genuineness but by the style in which they are imagined (Anderson 1991: 6). If nationalisms in the rest of the world have to choose their imagined community from certain ‘modular’ forms already made available to them by Europe and the Americas, what do they have left to imagine?
