Abstract
En réponse à la crise socio-écologique actuelle, les organismes d’éducation populaire ont élargi leurs champs d’intervention vers le développement d’une écocitoyenneté critique, d’un savoir-vivre en société en harmonie avec l’ensemble du monde vivant. En raison de leur situation de précarité, souvent marginalisés, les adultes des milieux populaires sont en effet généralement négligés par les programmes ou les initiatives d’éducation relative à l’environnement, malgré un intérêt grandissant de leur part pour les questions environnementales vives. On peut se demander alors comment rejoindre ces adultes sur de telles questions, eux qui, marqués par une expérience scolaire souvent négative (échecs, abandon, humiliation), ont un faible niveau de scolarité et peinent au quotidien à répondre à leurs besoins de base ? Cet article décrit à cet effet une initiative pédagogique interdisciplinaire croisant éducation relative à l’environnement et alphabétisation, dont nous mettrons en évidence les approches et stratégies adoptées de même que les défis rencontrés lors de son expérimentation.
