Abstract
Dans le cadre du présent dossier examinant différentes collections de monographies illustrées d’écrivains, cet article propose une étude de la collection « Auteurs », publiée par les Éditions Textuel puis Gallimard, commanditée par l’Institut français et en collaboration avec l’Institut national de l’audiovisuel. Sa formule est quelque peu inusitée : à un essai, une petite anthologie, une iconographie s’ajoute un CD d’extraits sonores tirés des fonds de l’INA ; elle arbore également une maquette graphique singulière. Ces choix concourraient, malgré leur relatif respect des conventions du genre de la monographie sur un écrivain, à faire de ces ouvrages les moteurs d’une opération de surcanonisation, menée dans une visée utilitariste. Les signaux contradictoires associés à ces livres-objets témoigneraient d’une difficile insertion dans l’échiquier culturel mondial autant que d’une préfiguration de l’entrée dans le champ de la culture numérique.
