Abstract
Lors des dernières décennies du XXe siècle, la plupart des pays industriels connaissent la croissance spectaculaire d’une maladie professionnelle, les troubles musculo-squelettiques (TMS). Touchant les articulations, ces maladies résultent d’hyper sollicitation du corps, du fait de postures inadaptées, d’efforts excessifs ou trop répétés. Or, des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, des chercheurs cherchent à repenser le phénomène. Médecins, épidémiologistes et ergonomes extraient leurs observations des anciennes classifications par métiers et formulent des analyses nouvelles permettant de prendre en considération le développement du phénomène. Dans ce mouvement, les échanges scientifiques se font écho entre les États-Unis et le Canada d’une part, et les pays d’Europe du Nord-Ouest de l’autre. Formalisant cette coopération, un groupe francophone de chercheurs étudiant les TMS est créé au début du XXIe siècle.
