Abstract
Cet article documente la façon dont l’exercice des couvertures a servi d’outil pédagogique pour sensibiliser les futures intervenantes et les futurs intervenants en travail social aux blessures historiques vécues par les Autochtones depuis l’arrivée des Européens en Amérique. L’exercice des couvertures est une expérience pédagogique permettant de revisiter l’histoire telle que vécue par les Premières Nations et transmise oralement à travers les époques. Le cercle de partage qui conclut l’expérience offre une ouverture sur la compréhension des injustices sociales liées aux enjeux politiques ainsi que l’adoption d’une attitude de collaboration. L’exercice des couvertures est analysé avec une approche expérientielle visant la sensibilisation/conscientisation, et ouvrant sur la réflexion et le pouvoir d’agir. Ce qui enrichit cette démarche, c’est la rencontre des Autochtones et des allochtones, parfois pour une première fois. L’éducation ressort comme le moyen de préparer cette rencontre et d’écrire ensemble un futur rafraîchi. Le changement qui crée l’espoir doit s’exprimer en actions posées au quotidien, ouvrant le sentier petit pas par petit pas à des alliances diverses.
