Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Itapiranga is a small town located in the extreme west of the state of Santa Catarina. Jesuits founded an association of German Catholics and aspired to organize the occupation of the area and to form an ethnically and religiously homogeneous community. In this context, this research intended to analyze the urban formation of Itapiranga and identify the conditions and factors that have influenced this process, reflecting on the construction and transformation of the landscape. For this purpose, we developed bibliographic, documentary and field research, seeking to approach the historical process of production of the urban space. From the adoption of morphological and evolutionary periods, we understood the urban formation and the influence of social, cultural, economic and political aspects, which resulted in the urban physical form, considering the geographic support of the pre-existing natural landscape. These elements compose the cultural landscape that remains in a constant process of construction and transformation.
