Abstract
La perte des possessions francaises en Amerique du Nord, au XVIIIe siecle, entraine le retour inopine en metropole de nombreux colons, chasses de leurs biens. Depourvus de moyens d’existence, ils doivent etre pris en charge par le Tresor royal. Quand survient la Revolution, la nouvelle administration entend continuer a leur apporter des secours, selon toutefois des modalites qu’elle va reglementer de facon stricte. Les dossiers des secours qui leur sont verses, conserves en quantite importante aux Archives nationales, permettent de reconstituer des itineraires personnels ou familiaux. Canadiens et Acadiens continuent longtemps a constituer en metropole un groupe social coherent, marque par des traits caracteristiques. En s’appuyant essentiellement sur les dossiers de secours conserves aux Archives nationales (Paris) qui evoquent leurs conditions de rapatriement, d’installation en metropole et ensuite de survie, cet article s’attache a rendre une partie de leur histoire a ces colons rentres contre leur gre.
