Abstract
La ville de Lavaur dans le Tarn (10 000 habitants), ancien siège d’évêché et ancienne souspréfecture, célèbre depuis plusieurs décennies déjà un douloureux moment de son histoire : sa prise par Simon de Montfort et le massacre qui s’ensuivit lors de la Croisade des Albigeois (1211). La fin brutale de sa châtelaine Na Geralda, jetée dans un puits, tient lieu de symbole : sur l’emplacement de l’ancien château, le Plô, un monument, prenant les formes de la colombe cathare, en porte témoignage et une cérémonie du souvenir s’y déroule régulièrement fin mai sous les auspices de la Société archéologique. Dans cette « cité cathare », titre aujourd’hui fortement revendiqué en Languedoc aux alentours du huitième centenaire de la Croisade (1209), l’année 2008 aura vu l’émergence de rituels animistes lors de la cérémonie du souvenir, en présence d’Amérindiens canadiens, états-uniens, guyanais, unis aux Occitans pour la défense de la Terre-Mère et des droits des peuples indigènes… C’est ce syncrétisme politique et religieux que nous nous proposons d’analyser comme une étape significative dans l’histoire de cette commémoration.
