Abstract
La prise en charge des enfants exposés au VIH ou infectés par le VIH s’est améliorée grâce à de nouvelles méthodes de dépistage et de nouveaux antirétroviraux. Lorsque c’est possible, ces enfants devraient être soignés en consultation avec des infectiologues pédiatres ayant des compétences en VIH. Les médecins qui soignent ces enfants devraient se fier aux lignes directrices des National Institutes of Health des États-Unis, en anglais, qui sont constamment mises à jour. Les médecins devraient se rappeler que la date de mise en marché des nouveaux antirétroviraux et de leur formulation pédiatrique diffère au Canada et aux États-Unis, compte tenu du pays qui homologue ces produits le premier. Les questions relatives au dépistage du VIH pendant la grossesse, aux avantages d’un dépistage précoce et à la prévalence de la maladie figurent dans un document de principes de la Société canadienne de pédiatrie intitulé « Le dépistage du VIH pendant la grossesse » [1].
