Abstract
Los “dialectos” son variantes geograficas en los cantos de las aves, reconocibles y, segun se cree, mas o menos localizadas y persistentes. Sin embargo, un reciente estudio ha descrito por primera vez la expansion de un determinado modo de cantar desde un extremo a otro de un continente y en un tiempo asombrosamente corto, apenas veinte anos. La especie protagonista es el chingolo gorgiblanco (Zonotrichia albicollis), un paseriforme migratorio cuya area de distribucion en epoca de cria se extiende por Canada y el nordeste de los Estados Unidos. La forma tradicional de su canto termina con una misma nota repetida tres veces, pero ya a finales de los anos noventa se detecto en la Columbia Britanica, en el extremo occidental del area de distribucion, una variante que terminaba con solo dos notas y que es la que finalmente se ha impuesto en una enorme superficie continental
