Abstract
Du Moyen Âge jusqu’à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, la fleur de lis fut l’emblème prestigieux de la royauté en France. Le déclin de ce symbole s’est toutefois amorcé avec la Révolution française, où l’on fit table rase de tout ce qui évoquait de près ou de loin la monarchie. Or, à partir de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle, les Québécois vont donner une seconde vie à cet emblème en le récupérant et en lui donnant une signification collective tout à fait inédite, qui sera officiellement consacrée en 1948 avec l’adoption du drapeau fleurdelisé par le gouvernement du Québec, mesure unanimement applaudie. Ce texte a pour but d’analyser l’évolution des connotations rattachées au symbole de la fleur de lis au Québec du Régime français à nos jours, et d’expliquer quels sont les facteurs historiques et les principaux acteurs à l’origine de ce transfert symbolique impliquant la France et le Québec.
