Abstract
Los relatos de los primeros viajes a lo largo del Amazonas, particularmente el de Gaspar de Carvajal y los de la expedición emprendida por Ursúa, narran la aventura del descubrimiento de un territorio desconocido y maravilloso, pero suponen sobre todo un rico compendio de relaciones de naturaleza administrativa y protocientífica en las que se describen medios de transporte y formas de logística militar. Se presentan de este modo como parte integrante de la infraestructura del imperio. Pero, ante todo, son meditaciones sobre los nuevos modos de poder soberano, descrito por primera vez de manera explícita un siglo más tarde por Hobbes; un poder que consiste en acelerar el envío de tropas, funcionarios, navíos y armas, así como en establecer circuitos de feedback.
