Abstract
Les lignes de la production de connaissances en et sur l’Afrique et les diasporas africaines ne cessent de bouger, au gré des transformations des contextes politiques, institutionnels, idéologiques et épistémologiques au sein desquels elle se réalise. En prenant l’engagement scientifique comme fil conducteur, cet article introductif pose quatre grandes questions relatives au passé, au présent et aux futurs possibles des études africaines. « L’Afrique » constitue-t-elle aujourd’hui un périmètre scientifique légitime ? Comment à la fois considérer des dynamiques autonomes par le bas et des rapports de domination ? En quoi l’évolution contemporaine des sociétés africaines aide-t-elle à penser celles d’autres sociétés à travers le monde ? Comment articuler les arènes de production des savoirs sur l’Afrique sans anéantir leur pluralité ?
