Abstract
Dans un contexte de soif de connaissances, l’Académie royale des Sciences de Paris au XVIIIe siècle s’adjoint des correspondants dans les colonies afin d’amasser du matériel (faune, flore et minéraux). Ceux-ci bien souvent médecins répondent aux exigences en écrivant des rapports, et en envoyant divers spécimens. Michel Sarrazin et Jean-François Gaultier pour le Canada représentent les parfaits exemples de cet ensemble. En plus de leur fonction de médecin, ils s’intéressent pour le premier aux animaux et à la flore, et pour le second à la météorologie, à la minéralogie et à la flore. L’apogée et la reconnaissance de leur travail se traduisent dans l’appellation de deux plantes qui leur sont dédiées. La communication s’orientera selon trois axes : « quand la science suit l’expansion coloniale », les observations scientifiques (minéralogie, anatomie, météorologie), les observations botaniques (plantes commercialisées, plantes envoyées au jardin du Roi et plantes ayant des vertus thérapeutiques).
