En examinant comment la notion d’art populaire a pris forme au Brésil, cet article permet de constater que les figurines, et sculptures réalisées par des personnes appartenant aux classes populaires peuvent être vues comme des productions artistiques. En parallèle, il met en lumière les efforts déployés par le Museu Casa do Pontal, depuis sa création par Jacques Van de Beuque en 1976, et, après lui, au cours de ces vingt dernières années. Il montre notamment comment l’institution a contribué à une plus grande appréciation de cette production et a œuvré pour la reconnaissance du rôle des artistes et la diffusion qualifiée de leurs créations, tout en insistant sur l’attribution de leurs autorités respectives.
