Abstract
Nel panorama delle rielaborazioni novecentesche dell’immaginario purgatoriale può senz’altro collocarsi In sonno e in veglia (1987) di Anna Maria Ortese, il cui richiamo al luogo intermedio dell’aldilà cattolico è presente tanto nell’oggetto della narrazione quanto nella scrittura stessa. La raccolta di racconti è in realtà un libro-manifesto che svela il segreto della scrittura in un titolo programmatico: il binomio ossimorico di sonno e veglia circoscrive infatti sia la tecnica narrativa visionaria, sia la Weltanschauung dell’opera ortesiana che, qui come altrove, accoglie “storie tra mondo e sottomondo, tra giorno e notte.” La scrittura di apparizioni e visioni, tipica della narrativa ortesiana, abitando la soglia tra sogno e realtà, che è poi lo spazio liminale tra visibile e invisibile, autorizza all’uso della definizione di scrittura del dormiveglia.
