Abstract
Het UNESCO-Werelderfgoedcomite in Quebec (Canada) heeft op 8 juli van dit jaar beslist dat het meer dan 300 km2 grote gebied om de Piz Sardona, in het grensgebied van de kantons St. Gallen, Glarus en Graubunden, op de lijst van UNESCO-Werelderfgoed wordt opgenomen. Grote vreugde in Zwitserse kringen, want hiervoor had men sinds 1998 geijverd. Het nu beschermde object is dan ook een van de belangrijkste geologische fenomenen die er wereldwijd bestaan.
