Abstract
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent complication of cancer usually managed by anticoagulation therapy [1]. Long-term daily doses of anticoagulation therapy may add to the emotional stress and treatment burden experienced by patients with cancer [2]. Observational data demonstrate that long-term persistence with LMWH therapy is low, suggesting general dissatisfaction among patients possibly because of the inconveniences associated with this therapy [3]. Changing from traditional anticoagulants (low-molecular-weight heparin, fondaparinux, or a vitamin K antagonist) to a guideline recommended direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) may lessen the treatment burden associated with cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT) [4].
