Abstract
We point out significant deficiencies in the article by Shao et al. (Shao, Z.; Han, Y.; Yang, H.; Wang, J.; Tian, J.; Xu, Y.; Zhang, L.; Ren, X.; Xu, C. Experimental study of the combustion and emission characteristics of lower alcohols in a constant volume vessel. Energy Fuels 2020, 34 (3), 3649−3660. DOI: 10.1021/acs.energyfuels.9b02834). Regrettably, the experimental findings reported in the article by Shao et al. violate the laws of thermodynamics. We demonstrate that, using the basic principles of thermodynamics, results presented in the article do not obey the conservation of mass and energy.
