Abstract
Au XIXeme siecle, a travers le Portugal, la France, l’Italie et le Bresil, le destin mouvemente de Pedro da Silva, orphelin, interne d’un college religieux, est marque par les apparitions de personnages se jouant des identites et des passions. Le pere Dinis, ancien aristocrate, est un libertin devenu justicier. Une comtesse rongee par la jalousie ne vit que pour accomplir sa vengeance. Un pirate sanguinaire s'est reconverti en homme d’affaires prospere... Les recits s'entremelent. D'apres l'oeuvre de Camilo Castelo Branco, l'ultime chef-d'oeuvre onirique et feuilletonnesque signe Raoul Ruiz. Prix Louis Delluc (Meilleur film de l'annee 2010).
