Abstract
Cet article présente une synthèse des connaissances liées au développement des programmes et départements universitaires en communication au Québec. Une analyse des écrits scientifiques, de la littérature grise et d’entretiens qualitatifs menés auprès de fondateurs et de directeurs des départements ou de programmes universitaires en communication au Québec met en exergue leur naissance et leur trajectoire au cours des quarante dernières années au sein des sept universités québécoises qui offrent un programme d’études supérieures en communication. La synthèse des connaissances montre que les programmes de communication découlent de diverses influences disciplinaires et qu’ils témoignent des changements vécus par la société québécoise. Elle laisse aussi entrevoir que le développement des programmes de communication a été influencé par les contextes étatique, institutionnel et social et qu’une dualité marque le rapport entre les programmes professionnalisants et les programmes plutôt théoriques ou scientifiques. Une réflexion quant aux éléments soulevés dans cette synthèse clôt cet article.
