Abstract
El insuficiente conocimiento sobre los vacíos urbanos bajo tierra que se encuentra infrautilizados y abandonados en las metrópolis contemporáneas, dan como resultado una escasa exploración de estos espacios como un potencial disponible para las ciudades. La finalidad del presente artículo es establecer al vacío subterráneo infrautilizado como una alternativa de conectividad y desarrollo del espacio público en las metrópolis. Para este fin se plantea un análisis comparativo de cuatro proyectos en diferentes ciudades que re-utilizan las vías subterráneas del metro y tren, con el fin de repensar el vacío subterráneo como alternativa de conectividad y desarrollo del espacio público. Montreal, Toronto, Nueva York y Londres han optado por reciclar espacios abandonados bajo tierra, dando como resultado los proyectos Réso, Path, Lowline y London Underline, estos proyectos apuestan al reciclaje de espacios subterráneos infrautilizados y los transforman en conexiones entre los equipamientos de la ciudad y ayudan a liberar el densificado perfil urbano que se caracteriza por la superabundancia de actividades en superficie en las metrópolis.
