Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

EnglishThe musical holdings of the Casa Carles of Girona form part of the large mass of documents which the Carles family of prominent landowners of Girona bequeathed to the Diocesan Archive of Girona. The cataloguing of these holdings, within the framework of the Musical Holdings Inventory of Catalonia project (IFMUC, from the Catalan), has allowed a study to be made of them, while following the path that the musical manuscripts and printed documents revealed during this musicological investigation. The catalogue covers a long period of time which begins with published and manuscript music from the last quarter of the 18th century and extends to the second quarter of the 20th century. The contents of the holdings allow us to recreate a broad musical spectrum, which includes the musical activities that took place in the Casa Carles over the course of the 19th century, as evidenced by the documents signed by members of the family. The manuscripts also include works by composers who maintained relations with the family of landowners, such as Melcior de Ferrer i de Manresa, a friend and onetime fellow student of Joaquim de Carles i de Ferrer. Likewise, the manuscripts help to establish the relation which the family maintained with various clerics of the cathedral of Girona. catalaEl fons musical de la Casa Carles de Girona forma part de l’important gros documental que aquesta familia d’hisendats gironins va deixar en herencia a l’Arxiu Diocesa de Girona.
