Abstract
El análisis de las causas de la crisis en Venezuela oscila entre culpar al imperialismo y sus aliados locales por una “guerra económica” contra las supuestas políticas populares y de independencia nacional del gobierno de Maduro y marcar su origen en la corrupción y el despilfarro. Estas posiciones obvian el contenido mundial de la forma nacional del capitalismo y buscan explicaciones centradas en la política venezolana. En este artículo, nos proponemos analizar los cambios políticos locales e internacionales vinculados a la crisis como expresión del lugar de Venezuela en la producción mundial de petróleo a partir de la creciente sobreproducción de petróleo de tipo pesado en el que se especializa el país y la disputa con Canadá por abastecer a los Estado Unidos.
