Les œuvres étudiées dans le cadre de cet article ( Dora Bruder , Une femme invisible , La femme qui fuit et Un livre sur Mélanie Cabay ) vouent une véritable fascination à un être de second ordre, dont l’existence, bien qu’attestée, s’est déroulée de façon discrète. Postulant que ces personnes de l’ombre partagent le statut du personnage secondaire, « qualitativement mineur et quantitativement inférieur », il s’agit de voir comment l’ontologie fictionnelle, les fonctions narratives et les potentialités sémantiques du personnage secondaire peuvent contribuer à éclairer le traitement littéraire des êtres mineurs qui peuplent une part non négligeable de l’imaginaire contemporain.
