Abstract

Cet article porte un regard critique sur la logique utilitariste qui domine actuellement les conditions humaines et sociales de vie. L’analyse se penche specifiquement sur les rapports entre cette logique et le champ de l’education et plus particulierement encore les sciences humaines et sociales qui sont largement ostracisees. Apres avoir defini ce que sont les sciences humaines et sociales et leurs apports fondamentaux a l’education scolaire, nous degageons deux grandes interpretations du domaine de l’education et de ses composantes instruction et socialisation, soit une tendance emancipatrice et une tendance conditionnante et instrumentale. Ces prealables permettent ensuite de considerer la notion d’utilitarisme dans ses li ens avec l’education et les sciences humaines et sociales, puis, en s’appuyant sur les travaux de Caille, de degager differentes conceptions de l’utilite dont certaines s’opposent a la vision economiciste. En conclusion, nous proposons un certain nombre d’axes et de principes educatifs qui pourraient soutenir une approche educative emancipatoire.
