Abstract
Работа посвящена выявлению степени участия этнических диаспор в общественно-политической жизни современной Канады на примере русской и украинской диаспор. Рассматривается понятие этнической диаспоры, становление и развитие политики мультикультурализма в Канаде. Прослеживаются основные этапы русской и украинской иммиграции в Канаду. Анализируется степень общественно-политической активности членов русской и украинской диаспор. Указанные диаспоры сравниваются на этапе формирования и на современном этапе.\n Автор приходит к выводу, что степень участия этнической диаспоры в общественно-политической жизни страны пребывания определяется уровнем развития конкретной диаспоры. Этот уровень определяется выраженностью этнического самосознания у членов диаспоры, стремлением к сохранению родной культуры, уровнем консолидации диаспоры, наличием общих интересов и способностью лоббировать их в органах власти. Подчеркивается, что украинская диаспора в Канаде достигла высокой степени развития и эффективно отстаивает свои интересы во властных структурах. Отмечается, что русская диаспора является «зарождающейся» в связи с чем, ей не удается оказывать существенного влияния на общественно-политические процессы в стране.
