Abstract
Après avoir été touchée par l’épidémie de COVID-19 en mars 2020 et mis en place toute une série de mesures sanitaires, l’île Maurice est devenue, pendant plus de dix mois, l’un des rares États Covid free de la planète, jusqu’à ce qu’une nouvelle vague épidémique l’atteigne à nouveau en mars 2021. L’objectif de cette réflexion est de comprendre comment ce petit État insulaire émergent de l’océan Indien a réussi, là où les grandes puissances du nord ont pour l’heure échoué. Alors que les Small Island Developing States (SIDS) sont souvent représentés comme des territoires vulnérables, l’hypothèse formulée ici consiste à considérer, au contraire, que le relatif isolement insulaire et l’exiguïté territoriale de Maurice, combinés à un fort interventionnisme étatique, ont constitué des atouts essentiels dans le contrôle spatial de la pandémie et dans son endiguement.
