Abstract
A partir de algunas consideraciones sobre la literatura de viajes, las escrituras tuteladas y las narrativas testimoniales, el artículo analiza desde una mirada crítica El viaje de Kalilu, un libro publicado en 2009, que narra en primera persona la travesía de Kalilu Jammeh desde Serekunda, Gambia, hasta las costas de España. El objetivo es señalar algunas tensiones que existen en la obra, en especial las relacionadas con la escritura del libro, el mensaje que transmite y los receptores. Se trata de un testimonio que importa y también impacta por las descripciones que ofrece sobre la migración clandestina en África, las condiciones del viaje, el funcionamiento y organización de las redes de traficantes de personas, las rutas, la geografía, los grupos étnicos, las relaciones lingüísticas e interculturales, las estrategias de supervivencia de los migrantes, los tratos que reciben, entre otras cosas. La principal hipótesis es que el libro tiene un doble propósito: por un lado, disuadir a los africanos que buscan migrar a Europa de forma clandestina; por otro, sensibilizar y crear conciencia entre los lectores europeos frente a la tragedia que supone este tipo de migración. De este doble propósito se genera una discusión sobre quiénes son sus verdaderos destinatarios y la recepción de la obra entre distintos públicos.
