Abstract
Dans Le Maître de Pétersbourg , une « fantaisie poétique » (J. Frank) qui a pour modèle Fiodor Dostoïevski, J. M. Coetzee fictionnalise la personne réelle d’un écrivain de premier plan, dont la vie et l’œuvre sont scrutées par une foule de commentateurs. En faisant fi de ce qu’on sait de l’auteur des Possédés , Coetzee semble vouloir s’attacher à un autre type de savoir. Le présent article cherche à déterminer quel est ce savoir propre à la fiction et en quoi il concerne l’écriture, l’acte même de création.
