Abstract
La présente étude consiste à examiner la manière dont trois corpus d’oeuvres, composées en différents lieux entre le XIV e et le XVII e siècles, donnent à voir de multiples temporalités qui se croisent et se conjuguent : entre images et textes, entre Orient et Occident, et entre thèmes religieux et thèmes séculiers. Ces trois corpus sont les suivants : (1) une représentation du prophète Muhammad qui illustre, à Tabriz au XIV e siècle, un passage des Vestiges des siècles passés de Abu Rayḥān al-Birūnī, rédigés au Khwarizm vers l’an mille ; (2) une illustration tirée du Mi‘rāj Nāmeh de Mīr Ḥaydar, rédigé et enluminé à Hérāt en 1436 et (3) un ensemble de trois tableaux peints par Johannes Vermeer, respectivement vers 1657, en 1668 et en 1669. L’objectif, ici, n’est pas d’offrir une interprétation définitive de chacun de ces corpus, mais bien de montrer l’ampleur, la richesse et la complexité des traversées que l’on y voit à l’oeuvre, alors que celles-ci impliquent pareillement des références au temps, à l’espace et au mouvement.
