O texto aqui apresentado focou duas curtas passagens da Historia Langobardorum de Paulo Diácono. Apesar da brevidade dos excertos, ambas fornecem argumentos para a criação da monarquia lombarda e sobre sua estrutura na Península Itálica. Ao analisar o texto com acuidade e cotejando com outras fontes do período, percebi que Paulo Diácono utilizou suas referências textuais para melhor atender seus argumentos, tal como demonstrar as dificuldades interacionais entre reis e duques lombardos na Itália da segunda metade do século VIII.
