Abstract
The Canadian geography and vast natural resources allow the country to produce enough energy to meet its domestic needs and export the surplus. The most relevant foreign market for Canada is the United States. Oil and natural gas pipelines and electricity transmission lines connect Canadian production points with strategic sectors in the US. The governance of natural resources and energy production is shared between the federal and provincial governments. Interprovincial and international energy trade falls under federal jurisdiction. Regulations on GHG emissions have been issued by most provinces. Federal regulations on GHG emissions apply by default when provinces do not have a framework in force.
