Abstract
Jean Colston was a highly respected consultant rheumatologist at the Central Middlesex Hospital from 1975 until her retirement in 1995. She was born in central London to Eric and Cathie (nee Ross) Colston. She, then 8, and her two younger brothers, Ian and Colin were evacuated to North Canton, Ohio, USA, where the headquarters of the Hoover Company was based. Their father was managing director of Hoover in the UK. They and their nanny, Ivy, set sail from Southampton in 1940 and remained happily in North America until August 1944, six weeks after D-Day.
