Abstract
With the goal of improving signal-to-noise ratio in stored-grain Electromagnetic Imaging, an electrically small Ferrite Loaded Shielded Half Loop Antenna (FLSHLA) in the 200-400 MHz band has been designed, simulated, fabricated, and tested. Using a scaled grain-bin EMI system, it is shown that loading a Shielded Half Loop Antenna (SHLA) with ferrite materials increases the S <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">21</inf> by ~20 dB over previously used (non-loaded) SHLA. This signal improvement is achieved without the need of matching circuits which are often necessary in electrically small antennas.
