Abstract
En cinq thèmes, l’article résume un long et amical échange de courriels auquel se sont livrés les compositeurs Jean-Luc Fafchamps (Belgique) et Michel Gonneville (Québec) entre octobre 2020 et janvier 2021. Chacun parle d’abord de la musique de l’autre, et particulièrement d’un opéra de l’autre, tout récemment écrit et produit. Ensuite, tous deux se livrent à un exercice de comparaison de leurs démarches créatrices, qu’ils situent brièvement dans leurs contextes nationaux respectifs. Partageant une longue expérience d’enseignement, les auteurs évoquent enfin la responsabilité de la transmission non seulement de connaissances et d’une culture musicale, mais aussi d’un goût et d’un plaisir de la découverte esthétique.
