Partant du concept de « nostalgie postcommuniste », introduit par Maria Todorova et Zsuzsa Gille en 2010 pour repenser la façon dont les habitants de l’Europe de l’Est gèrent la mémoire du passé après la chute du communisme, cet article propose une analyse de trois installations de l’artiste tchèque Kateřina Šedá (née en 1977) : It Doesn’t Matter (2005-2007), There’s Nothing There (2003) et Bedřichovice Upon Thames (2011-2015). L’isolement social grandissant observé depuis 1989 et qui se manifeste notamment par l’augmentation du nombre de divorces et d’enfants uniques, ainsi que par la hauteur des clôtures dans les villages, etc., constitue la principale source d’inspiration de l’artiste qui crée des installations sociales en collaboration avec ses « protagonistes ». Utilisant différents écrans comme interface de communication et de relation, Šedá « montre des personnes à d’autres personnes » et, de façon aussi naïve que convaincante, nous rappelle l’importance de la coprésence physique des individus pour une vie commune et une nouvelle socialité.
