Abstract
This chapter presents a clinical scenario of a 56-year-old woman who is presented with complaints of right-hand weakness and numbness that awakens her at night. Carpal tunnel release (CTR) is one of the most common hand surgeries. Historically, the procedure has been performed primarily in the main operating room (OR). CTR in the minor procedure room eliminates the cost for an anesthesiologist as the local anesthetic is administered by the surgeon. The chapter reviews the evidence examining the benefits and possible risks of performing CTR in the minor procedure setting and discusses possible indications for release in the main OR. It also provides recommendations for implementing evidence-based practice in the clinical setting.
