Abstract
Abstract This book focuses on the age of psychopharmacology that began in the 1950s, when science entered the study of drugs that affect the brain and mind. It reviews the recent fall of psychopharmacology as drug offerings became impoverished and diagnoses became distorted by a pseudoscientific system called the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. It looks at new diagnoses, such as “major depression,” which have strayed increasingly from the real disorders of most patients. The book discusses the invasion of psychopharmacology by the pharmaceutical industry, which paid off commercially but not scientifically. It tells the story of the public health disaster of psychopharmacology, wherein psychiatry’s diagnoses and therapeutics have largely failed and greatly declined from earlier days.
