Ce texte propose l’examen d’une situation peu étudiée, celle du lien entre la mobilité géographique et l’insertion professionnelle des jeunes peu scolarisés. En effet, dans la plupart des cas, c’est la situation des jeunes diplômés postsecondaires qui fait l’objet de travaux sur la mobilité géographique, détournant du coup l’attention des jeunes qui n’ont pas obtenu leur diplôme d’études secondaires. Cet article permet de constater qu’il existe des différences selon le niveau de scolarité sur le plan des conditions objectives d’insertion professionnelle et des motifs de la mobilité géographique. Toutefois, nonobstant ces différences, la représentation que se font ces personnes de leur rapport à l’emploi semble peu influencée par leur niveau de scolarité. En effet, les jeunes peu scolarisés estiment détenir un certain pouvoir sur le marché de l’emploi et semblent globalement satisfaits de leur insertion professionnelle. Une interprétation théorique a été avancée tentant d’expliquer cet état de fait par une adaptation objective des attentes qu’ont les jeunes peu scolarisés, notamment par le système d’enseignement et le marché de l’emploi.
