Abstract
En partant d’une conception de la citoyenneté dans une société démocratique pluraliste comme participant à la fois de l’appartenance à une communauté culturelle et à un espace politique, il est proposé de recadrer la posture de l’enseignante ou de l’enseignant en milieu pluriethnique au regard du développement identitaire des élèves. Au lieu de chercher à conforter un noyau dur identitaire, l’enseignante ou l’enseignant pourrait contribuer au développement d’un centre de gravité par une éducation centrée sur un triple rapport à la culture, à la pensée symbolique et au pouvoir. C’est en développant un sentiment d’appartenance culturelle, du droit à exister, que l’élève peut développer la capacité à s’associer politiquement à l’autre, à investir l’espace public comme lieu de délibération. Cet équilibre entre le sentiment d’appartenance et la capacité d’association devient son centre de gravité.
