Cette étude s’intéresse aux jeunes qui perturbent la vie scolaire, mettant en relation les principaux éléments de leur histoire familiale et de leur histoire scolaire pour s’interroger sur les liens que l’on peut établir entre la violence et la situation familiale. Nous faisons l’hypothèse que la bientraitance éducationnelle familiale permet d’inhiber, ou du moins de réduire, les comportements violents au sein de l’école. Nous entendons ici par bientraitance éducationnelle l’intérêt porté par les parents à l’enfant dans le cadre de ses études, une ambiance familiale favorable et des pratiques éducatives associant style « relationnel » et style « disciplinaire », c’est-à-dire communication et dialogue d’une part, et mise en place de repères et de limites d’autre part. Trois recherches ont été conduites sur 336 adolescents. Au vu des résultats corrélationnels entre les violences agie ou subie et la relation aux parents, il semble que la famille joue un rôle important dans l’inhibition des comportements violents des adolescents, plus particulièrement à travers la « qualité de la relation » en ce qui concerne les filles, et la « mise en place de limites » en ce qui concerne les garçons.
