Abstract
Le développement du système en base dix a été étudié au moyen de divers modèles théoriques dans des champs de recherche parfois très différents. La présente étude constitue la première étape de la mise à l’épreuve de l’un de ces modèles théoriques, le « UDSSI Triad Model » (Fuson et alii (1997); Fuson, Smith & Lo Cicero (1997)), modèle qui postule notamment un développement linéaire en quatre conceptions successives que l’enfant construirait au cours de l’apprentissage du système en base dix. Afin de caractériser ces différentes conceptions successives, nous avons défini les liens de traduction et les liens de structure qui s’établissent entre trois modes de représentation du nombre : la représentation verbale orale, la représentation décimale écrite en chiffres et la représentation quantitative. 121 enfants de 2ème et de 3ème année primaire de l’enseignement belge francophone ont été testés lors d’entretiens individuels. Les analyses quantitatives effectuées sur les résultats confirment en partie notre distinction entre liens de traduction et liens de structure. Plus généralement, ils nous permettent de questionner l’ordre développemental et les différentes conceptions postulés dans le modèle.
