El libro es una valiosa aportación a la historia de la Iglesia argentina, en cuanto que rescata de archivos, artículos periodísticos y bibliografía general todo aquello que permite elaborar la biografía del primer Obispo de La Plata.Como consecuencia, esta obra acerca al lector al ambiente histórico, a la formación religiosa y sacerdotal de la época, etc. Todo ello está relatado al hilo de la vida de Monseñor Espinosa, enigmática desde el principio e interesante y fecunda hasta el final.El libro sólo pretende analizar su tarea en la diócesis de La Plata, por este motivo concluye en 1900 en que se incorpora a Buenos Aires como cuarto arzobispo.
