Abstract
À l’université, on assiste à une révolution, c’est-à-dire un renversement des fins mêmes de l’éducation. Comme dans le roman d’anticipation Nineteen Eighty-Four (Orwell (1990 [1948])), cette révolution se fait de la façon la plus insidieuse et dès lors la plus efficace : par le langage. L’université révolutionnée parle et écrit aujourd’hui le jargon de la performance définie selon les critères et les lois de l’économie de marché. Ce jargon est un Newspeak, c’est-à-dire, comme l’évoque le vocable, un instrument de contrôle de la pensée; de plus, ce Newspeak possède une valeur performative, c’est-à-dire qu’il produit la réalité qu’il évoque. Mais la réalité produite et justifiée par le Newspeak de la performance entraîne un détournement des fins de l’enseignement, de la recherche et de l’administration universitaires. En mettant au jour les perversions du langage corporatif, on peut espérer semer les prémisses de la résistance de l’Université.
