Depuis un demi-siècle bientôt, trois mots-clés, le quoi, le pourquoi et le comment, occupent le terrain de la problématique de l’enseignement des sciences et constituent les principales cibles de ses maux. En effet, depuis les années 1950, des réformes se sont succédé au fil des ans, les unes et les autres mettant plus l’accent soit sur les objectifs à assigner à l’enseignement des sciences, soit sur les raisons pour lesquelles l’élève apprend les sciences ou encore sur les diverses manières d’enseigner les sciences.Mais l’enseignement des sciences semble être toujours dans l’impasse. Après une analyse de l’enseignement des sciences d’ici et d’ailleurs, hier et aujourd’hui, cet article propose un quatrième mot-clé, le par qui, visant à repenser la formation des enseignants des sciences pour inscrire cette dernière dans une perspective constructiviste selon laquelle l’apprenant construit son savoir.
