Abstract
This chapter presents results from an empirical study of teacher’s assessment of creative competency in Québec colleges, universities and professional training schools. From a theoretical perspective, it describes the concept of competency in artistic education and affirms the importance of subjectivity at the centre of teachers’ reflections on dance assessment. From a practical perspective, the chapter presents teachers’ viewpoints on their practice in assessing creative competency in contemporary dance and proposes a repertoire of criteria and indicators taken from their assessment processes which could be helpful for other teachers. Objectives To examine the assessment practices used by teachers of choreographic creation in higher education. To reflect on the role of subjectivity in the assessment of creative competency in dance. To identify a repertoire of criteria and indicators to assess creative competency.
