Abstract
Cette étude vise à repérer les éléments d’éducation théâtrale qui favorisent la construction identitaire dans le contexte d’une école secondaire de langue française de l’Ontario située en milieu rural. Elle porte plus particulièrement sur ce qui motive des adolescentes et des adolescents à suivre des cours d’arts et sur l’apport de la formation théâtrale à leur développement personnel. Elle repose à la fois sur la définition d’identité de Mucchielli (1986) et sur la théorie de l’autodétermination (Deci et Ryan, 1985; 2002). L’analyse du contenu d’entrevues réalisées auprès d’élèves fait ressortir la façon dont cette formation répond à leurs besoins d’autonomie, de compétence et d’appartenance. Ces témoignages permettent également de constater l’importance du rôle des enseignantes et des enseignants et de la communauté dans la construction identitaire à l’adolescence.
