Abstract
Classroom inquiry ultimately includes students asking questions about things that interest them, sharing responsibility for finding answers, and evaluating all answers. Encourage many students to comment, welcome every suggestion with comments such as "Thank the for the interesting thoughts," and schedule pauses in each lesson for students&s; clarification questions. While creating a plan to teach students kinds of questions or how to question, consider how much class time to devote to this activity. Teachers who value inquiry offer students this opportunity by making questions a part of every lesson. A Canadian teacher and colleagues describe how students created questions and a theme for a unit on freedom. The video also addresses changes in teacher roles, especially regarding facilitating and answering questions. Australian teacher Kath Murdoch&s;s TEDx talk addresses what children are wondering about, using their questions "as a gateway to deep learning." The video stresses the importance of nurturing curiosity in classrooms.
